Gillingham Anchorians 2nd XV v Tonbridge Juddians – 15:00 15 th September 2018

The 2xv welcomed Tonbridge Juddians 3s in there 1st merit table league fixture.

With a much changed team from last week and 9 players making there 1st appearance of the season it took us a bit time to get going.

Tonbridge came straight on the attack and good defence kept them out.

It wasn’t long before they took the lead with a quick tap penalty and this try was converted.

Slowly but surely the Anchs were getting confident with ball in hand and set piece going well.

A good handling move by the Anchs was just intercepted and there centre fed there very pacy winger who scored in the corner.

Tonbridge came back on the attack but a brilliant cover tackle by Jake Gurney that lifted all the team.

Anchs worked there way up the field with hard aggressive ball carrying from Collins and Roles which led to a scrum 10m out.

Collins picked from 8 and passed to Arnold who was just caught short of the line and offloaded to Barnett who scored the try. Gurney converted.

The next try soon followed from centre Ben Rahey as he broke through the defence to score untouched under the posts. Gurney converted.

Half time 14-14

Rahey injured replaced by Rayment

Second half continued as it finished with Anchs aggressive running from all the forwards sucking in the Tonbridge defence creating a massive overlap where Arnold fed Collins wide who committed the defender and unselfishly popped the ball to Toby Banner who scored. Missed conversion.

Tonbridge made more changes and came on the attack. A good defence effort followed with 2 try saving tackles but the pressure told and Tonbridge scored.

With time coming to the end Tonbridge worked the ball wide to the wing and he scored.

Final score 19-26

MOM Connor Roles

Closely followed by the other 16 players.

All players can be proud of there efforts today against a very strong Tonbridge team.

Next week we face Old Gravesendians at home with confidence running high.
