Gillingham Anchorians v Lordswood Friendly, 15:00 8th September 2018

With a strong side which had 9 players who played 1xv rugby last season things are looking up.

Lordswood came and only had 12 players so a big thank you to Ryan, Andy and Terry who helped make there numbers up.

With the game quite frantic being some people’s 1st game, Anchorians settled down and from a scrum Richie Collins picked from 8 and fed new player, winger Dave Starowicki and he touched down for his first try for the club. With a good ball from a line out and a good carry from flanker Connor Roles, 2nd phase ball and a set backs moves which Dave Arnold put Centre Taylor Brown thru a gap and he beat the last defender and scored under the posts. Lordswood came back and put us under pressure but our defence held out with strong tackling from the forwards. From a loose kick from the Lordswood 10, full back Mac Perry caught the ball and assessed the space in front of him and ran from just inside our half untouched to score under the posts for his 1st try in senior rugby. The 2nd half started with Anchorians on the the front foot and Richie Collins getting a try from close range. More scores followed from Dave Starowicki, Taylor Brown and another from captain Chris Rook. Final score 43-0 Well done to all that played that was a good all round team performance. A good preparation game for next week when we face Tonbridge Juddians in our 1st league game of the season.
