Anchs faced Vigo on Saturday in conditions made very difficult by Storm Dennis, which produced a low scoring game played mainly between the two 22m lines. It was a game that Anchs had targeted for victory, both to avenge the loss earlier in the season at Darland Avenue and also to keep them clear of the relegation zone.
Anchs faced fellow strugglers Park House at Darland Avenue in a must win match which would keep the winner above the relegation zone. Choosing to play down the slope in the first half to put the visitors under early pressure didn’t go the way Anchs had hoped when Park House opened the scoring with a penalty from in front of the posts.
Anchs made the long journey to Pulborough with a much changed side to face 4th placed Pulborough, looking to stem a run of defeats. It was however to prove another difficult day in what turned out to be a high scoring encounter.
Anchs returned to Darland Avenue for their first home game of the new year against 2nd placed Folkestone. The expectation was of a tough encounter playing a team against whom they conceded 71 points in their last meeting earlier in the season, and so it was to prove. Anchs started well in ideal winter playing conditions but it was not long before the lively Folkestone … Continue reading Gillingham Anchorians v Folkestone London & SE Division – London 3 South East, 14:00 18th Jan 2020

On a cold and dark, but dry November day, Anchs welcomed Old Dunstonians (“ODs”) to Darland Avenue hoping to return to winning ways in London SE 3. Anchs certainly started well, moving the ball to the wings but were playing the game in their own half. Against the run of play, the visitors opened the scoring with some neat inter-passing down the left wing, finished with a try in the corner. On a day where kicking would prove decisive the conversion was missed.
Anchs travelled to Bromley, just across the road from their recent away win against Park House, to face a Bromley side sitting above them in the league. Unfortunately, the persistent rain hampered both sides’ attempts to play an open game and the number of scoring opportunities were limited.
Vigo were the visitors to Darland Avenue on a wet and windy Saturday afternoon. Anchs took to the field in their new Brimstone Site Investigation (UXO) sponsored jerseys but the conditions, and a very competitive opposition, meant that things did not go their way from the start.
